Join a London-based Maritime business for an exciting opportunity to be a Field Engineer. The key organization is responsible for the management and development of the River Thames, overseeing one of the busiest waterways in the UK. Their operations now cover 95 miles of the River Thames, from Teddington to the North Sea. The company has achieved significant milestones in enhancing navigation safety, environmental sustainability, and infrastructure development along the river. 

They are currently looking for a Field Engineer to join the dedicated team! This hands-on role with a physical aspect, involves maintaining the navigation systems along the River Thames, including radar, VHF radios, and microwave communication systems, ensuring operational safety and reliability. 

You’ll be part of a close-knit team in Gravesend, contributing to an ambitious replacement and upgrade programme for critical navigation infrastructure. Travel is required, and on-call duties are part of the role.

Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure continuous operation and maintenance of navigation systems, including radar transceivers, antennas, radios, AIS base stations, microwave links, CCTV, warning lights, tide gauges, and weather sensors.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex faults across the systems promptly, and escalate issues as needed.
  • Conduct installations, maintenance, and support for new and replacement.
  • Lead or significantly contribute to equipment replacement projects and provide training to colleagues.
  • Create and maintain technical and safety documentation, ensuring compliance with healthequipment and safety regulations.
  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation (one week in four), with duties that may include weekend work.


Required Skills/Qualifications: 

  • Degree in electronic engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role.
  • Expertise in radar systems, VHF radio, and microwave technology.

Salary: 

  • £56,000-£62,000 per annum, plus 25% in allowances (10% market, 10% on-call, 5% overtime).
